When tayammum is permitted

It is permitted as the means of purification from minor and major impurities replacing ablution and total body washing under the following conditions:

1. Absence of water or insufficient water.

2. If water is needed for drinking or cooking.

3. If one is ill or injured and the use of water may aggravate the condition.

4. If water is nearby but there is danger in getting it.

5. If prayer time is about to lapse and there is not enough time for ablution or ghusl (Fiqh el Sunnah).

6. A person who cannot find water or wholesome soil, is permitted to pray without ablution, ghusl or tayammum.6
